Tree Preservation Orders
A Tree Preservation Order can protect a specific tree, a group of trees or woodland. Work to a protected tree generally requires written consent from the local planning authority, unless an exemption applies.
Conservation areas
Qualifying work to trees in a conservation area normally requires six weeks’ notice to the local planning authority when the tree is not already covered by a TPO. Exemptions and size thresholds apply. Check your particular tree and proposed work with the council.
Agree the practical steps
Oak & Yew can discuss the work you are considering and how to check local requirements. Permission cannot be guaranteed. Confirm who will make any application or notification and whether a fee applies before agreeing the work.
This is general guidance for England. The local planning authority can advise on the restrictions that apply to your property.

A few things
worth knowing.
Do quotations cost anything?
Oak & Yew advertises free, no-obligation quotations. Describe your trees, the result you want and the site access so the proposed work can be discussed.
Will my garden be left tidy?
The existing company terms include leaving work sites clean and tidy. Waste removal, logs and stump grindings should be clearly agreed in your individual quotation.
Are you qualified and insured?
Oak & Yew holds City & Guilds NPTC qualifications and public liability insurance cover up to £5 million. You can ask for current evidence before booking.
Can photographs help with a quote?
Yes. Photographs of the whole tree and its surroundings, taken from a safe position, help explain the job. Access and site conditions may still need a closer assessment.
Can you manage council permissions?
Discuss the proposed work and the checks required before booking. The historic terms mention handling permissions, but the current arrangements and any fee need to be confirmed directly.
Do you work with commercial clients?
Yes. Domestic and commercial work are listed on the company profile. Tell us about your site, access and any specific procurement or documentation requirements.
